Dr. Nelson Is Norry Speaker I Addresses Student Body at Mass Meeting for Annual Gridiron Classic Dr. E. H. Nelson, speaking before the Northumberland student body at as mass meeting on Friday, provoked a f real laugh when he staged a threatened tomato barrage, reminisemt of skirmishes between supporters of Northumberland and Sunbury football teams on the eve of the annual clash of these neighboring schools. This year, Sunbury newsmen and school authorities observed, was marked with no pre-game battles, the first peace has reigned supreme in the history of the series. In order to break up these antics, which have resulted at times in property damage, the schools for the pregame mass meetings exchanged bands. Sunbury musicians were at Northumberland and seated in front of the auditorium. Dr. Nelson, hearing about the tomato throwing antics of the past, took a small bag of the "fruit" with him. Before taking the platform he left the tomatoes with one of the band boys and asked him to pass them out among musicians in the front row. Instructions were followed and when the local educator got up to speak he inquired, "Say what have you fellows got down there." The presence of the tomatoes got a real laugh. W. C. Phillips, of the Northumberland High School faculty, said the stunt was staged entirely through the initiative of Dr. Nelson and was thoroughly understood and enjoyed by the faculty and student body. The talk was of a humorous nature and Phillips said "every one thoroughly enjoyed it. The talk was not the usual football talk but it kept every one in good spirits."
