College Grapplers To Open Season Against Keystone Scranton Jr. College Tomorrow ///*/,gf- To Wrestle at Brooklyn School ///t/3 ? Coach's Brother Will Direct Husky Matmen in Brooklyn Matches Bloomsburg State Teachers College wrestling team will open its 1939 season against Scranton-Keystone Junior College in the local gym at four o'clock Wednesday afternoon and will then go to Brooklyn on Saturday to meet Brooklyn College grapplers. Coach Ken Horner, who also coaches the Shamokin High Greyhounds, will direct the Huskies on Wednesday but will be unable to make the weekend trip as his Greyhounds will be meeting Pottsville High. For the Brookline match Horner's brother, Franklin E. Horner, now employed in New York City and a former wrestling star at F. & M., will look after the local ahletes. Five of the boys who were on the team last year are on hand this Winter and each is expected to show improvement. Those boys are: Walter Woytovich, of Shamokin, 128 pounds; Bob Hopfer. of town, unlimited class, both seniors; Sriiner, of Berwick, 135; Frank Taylor, of Berwick, 155, and Bill Reager, Shamokin, 175, all Sophomores.Three new comers are going to make their collegiate grappling debut tomorrow. They are Dick Scandle, a Shamokin Frosh in the 145-pound class; Home, a first year man from Bingtown who is the Husky representative in the 121-pound class, and Prokupshak, who .will go at 165. There are more than thirty candidates for the team and some keen battles are being waged for places. Crusader Baseball Schedule jJ/Jm yusquehanna University nced its baseball schedule for next ing. It is composed of 13 games and ... be tackled by an almost entirely (veteran team captained by Glenn iHaulf, big right hand hurler. The Crusaders will play here against ithe ftuskies on May 3. They open at Lewisburg against Bucknell on April 18. Other opponents are Scran ton- Keystone Junior College, Mbravdan, Juniata, Elizabethtowh, Dickinson, lUpsala and Penn State. {Wrestling Husky grapplers, uncertain as to when their season will start, watched with interest the East Stroudsburg- Lock Haven match over the weekend in which the Big Red tamed the Bald Eagles 28 to 10. This is Lock Haven's 'first year and its showing was good. Both of those schools meet the Huskies. iEast Stroudsburg will be here. Lock iHaven will be met in home and home ???engagements. ??? ... - Jitney Players Will Present Behrman Play At College on Friday ///ifel 'Thfe nited Jitney Players will bring their production of S. N. Behrman's witty and penerating comedy, "End of Summer" to Bloomsburg State Teachers College on Friday night, opening at 8:15. Heading the cast of this Theatre Guild hit production, which starred Ina Claire for two solid seasons on Broadway and the road last year, are Bettina Cerf, Douglas Rowland, Robert K. Adams and Ethel Barrymore Colt. Showing a group of culturec people thrown together at a weekend party in Maine, it has all the elements of fine drama. Behrman wit! his canny powers of characterization which were so remarkably demonstrated in "Biography," "Rain Frorr Heaven" and the "Second Man," presents the many problems which art today affecting the average sensible person in the modern world. The Jitney Players have cast Reec McCelland, Tom Gorman, Pendletor. Harrison, Harry Gresham and Madeline Hooley in important, roles. A disciple of Shaw, S. N. Behrman has the gift to make his audiences think at the same time as he entertains. The Jitney Players, America's oldest touring repertory troupe, have mounted the production with distinction and gooc tast3. FANNING l f It /fif rpHE job of building a wrestling team J- on the hill is man-sized. The reason is that most of the boys have never had any wrestling experience in high school. But those who get their initiation in grappling at Bloomsburg are catching on rapidly and that is the reason that the sport is progressing. Once wrestling is definitely established more boys experienced in the sport will undoubtedly be turning their footsteps this way after their high high school courses are concluded. All things considered, Ken Horner's crew did a fine job last year and is set for a better season this winter. Things jat the end of last year, however, looked better than they really are at the moment. Four boys who were on the 1938 squad and who were going good were expected back this season. But three of those have left school and another is not out for the squad because of Ernie football injuries. Those who left hool are John Hancock, 155. Mt. Carel; Early, 121, a Plymouth boy, and Bob Welker, 165. Shamokin. Mike Stenko, the big Berwick boy, has decided to lay-off this year because of some football bruises which linger on jto keep his memory refreshed of gridiron battles of the past fall. MT. Redline, to Delmar W. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Johnson, of Bloomsburg, R. D. 3. Miss Redline is a graduate of the Mifflinville High School and Dickinson Seminary. She is employed at the Geisinger Hospital. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of the Mifflinville High School and attended Bloomsburg State i Teachers College.
