College Huskies Defeat Mansfield at Basketball, Lose Wrestling ZiI&ZSL Huskies Down Mansfield Threat JhTHT regain Winning Ways Here By Score of 35-18 I Bloomsburg State Teacher* College! basketball team regained its winning! ways at the expense of Mansfield Teachers here last evening, easily set-k ting aside the court crew from the I Northern Tier. 35-18. The Huskies were in the lead all the I way and had a substantial 18-7 advan-F tage at the half. With the outcome early decided and the play sloppy at times, the contest did not pack the punch of the earlier preliminary. The Huskies, however, encouraged 'their following by displaying a passing attack vastly superior to the brand displayed last Saturday evening when , they fell before Lock Haven. The big trouble of Buchheit's boys last night was that they were missing them near the net. Had they converted all their shots in close the scorekeeper would have been nursing lame wrists today. ,; Half time score: Bloomsburg 18, Mansfield 7. He Was Interested In College "Do" Voshefski, the left-handed 1 star of Newport High teams the past two years who was at Villanova for a Ishort time last Fall, is now casting his basketball lot with the Nanticoke Celtics. The little fellow was in JBloomsburg last Fall and showed interest in entering the local institution. ???Then the next thing about him was a report that he was trying for a berth with the Plymouth NYP League club. Now he is with the Celtics. Voshefski is a fine athlete, playing brilliant basketball and being an excellent baseball pitcher. Jayvees Come To Grief Here Ih+l'A I College Reserves Beaten fori JFirst Time in Nearly Three Years Bloomsburg Teachers College Jay-Is vees, undefeated for almost three years, , came to the end of their prolonged victory march last night when they dropped a 42-38 decision to the Freeland A.R.S. club in an exciting preliminary on the College court. The Jayvees spurted after a close - &:st quarter to lead 23 to 12 at the . Freeland came back after intermission strengthened by Susavage, who Iwas late in arriving. He aided ma'jterially in their last half rally, scoring 8 points. Freeland grabbed the lead with 18 points in the third period. The teams came to the last two minutes of play with the score knotted at 36 but the Freeland boys had more left for the final drive and won out handily. The previous defeat by the Husky cubs was sustained back in the 1934- 35 campaign. Heads Hanover Athletic Council 1/15/38 Nick Van??uskirk, 'former Blooms-I>urg Teachers College basketball star, has been re-elected president of the rTanover Township Athletic Council at b recent meeting. When Nick was wearing the Maroon and Gold he could certainly stick the ball through the cords. Ask Ray Hawkins, now of the Scott faculty, about that. Ray played on the same team, capably folding down a ffuard post. The matches were keenly contested! and delighted a good-sized crowd of fans. The Huskies started out in high! gear with Early winning in the 1181 class by fall and Wytovitch gaining a I decision in the 126 pound class. Then Mansfield set to work to winF Jin the next two bouts by falls butl % Hancock, of the Huskies, regained thek lead for his club by throwing Hughesl in the 155 pound closs and in one off 'the best bouts on the card.
