About this collection

The Kutztown Journal is a local regional newspaper that is a predecessor to the Kutztown Patriot. Reflecting the culture of the region in the 1870’s, the articles are written in Pennsylvania German, but the editorial information and some of the advertisements are in English. The newspaper was printed using a traditional Blackletter font, and you cannot search for individual words and phrases on the pages. This digitization is a joint project of Kutztown University and the Kutztown Area Historical Society.
