millersville university students say 'funk you cancer' to the tune of $1152 i jackie laiierty news writer ■ over 170 parents students and friends gathered saturday to combine beautiful weather funk music while raising money for the american cancer society in form of a benefit concert organized by millersville student matt coin as an event his relay life team accumulated $1152 making this biggest individual any member on his 30 person team the idea for a benefit concert originated about two months ago when coin approached friend brad mastrangelo keyboardist local student funk band chaos thompson chaos thompson had thrown events multiple times and i came to them because thought it would be a creative way raise money for my team said coin twenty millersville students together organize the event with in depth planning beginning about month ago budget was made food alcohol backyard fencing wristbands various other materials local businesses generous contributions such as a banner from signarama 400 hotdogs by supervalu and 100 discounted hamburgers colonial meat market in west chester all students were welcome to attend but there was strict over 21 drinking age distinguished distinguished by wristbands received at the door for a ten dollar donation participants could enjoy endless food drinks and live music event began with brown sound comprised of members dan brown zach teti mike isaac christopher goodwin headlining was chaos thompson brad mastrangelo rory flynn chris boullata sean case jimmy swartz ewan mccall kyle montondo celebrity appearance made memorable one all our friend reached out to rock roll hall famer bernie worrell parliament funkadelic fame we were surprised how quickly he got back us coin said coincidentally orchestra playing chameleon club in lancaster that night agreed stop majority his band few hours they stayed parts both musical sets crowd who not expecting legendary musician be their presence although walked relay life last year this tastic fundraiser i danielle kreider news editor family friends and most importantly their furry will participate this saturday at rapho township community park from 9 am until 3 pm for the run walk wag 5k benefit which is being hosted by millersville university students kara weber jordan unroe all of proceeds humane league lancaster county's animal rescue fund weber and unroe have spent countless hours putting this event together they were brought together after met in a course had at mu it was their undying love for animals the desire to help that made them team up event during my time humane league as marketing intern i came realize strong need of medical expenses sick animals said weber by having walk we hope raise generous amount money donate day fun animal lovers community funding funding raised from the event is used for much needed medical services such as specialized surgeries medicine and extended recovery time in foster homes there will also be a raffle prize giveaway including items fulton theatre lancaster comedy show york revolution rainbow dinner chameleon club many more some vendors who making an appearance are caring angels pet service bob's barkery obtain answers questions that posed well initiate change for future drafted implemented an action plan address these concerns both procedure taken select policies governor corhett his administration regarding public higher education first sent letter current asking selection process how speakers are chosen be altered include more opinion believe if chance voice choosing own speaker situations like one currently facing could avoided from dr anderson speaks committee guaranteed meet each year at least once possibility expanding representation this committee plans following up suggestions best allow graduating class' heard second is planning facilitate silent demonstration dissent during seniors and/or families wish participate by providing visual symhol dissent can show protest
