Assoc News Editor Feedback compiled from suggestion boxes on campus online comment forms and input provided through Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) members is incorporated into the September 2013 Draft Planning Elements The following elements were included in the draft Vision Statement updated Mission Statement MU's Common Purpose and Goal Themes Dr Victor DeSantis and Dr Laurie Hanich co chairs of the SPC both served as members of the University Planning Council and Middle States reaccreditation process The Steering committee has done a lot of hard work in developing initial planning elements said DeSantis We take that feedback seriously and are constantly looking for ways to be responsive The Planning Committee have already created multiple iterations of draft items and will modify the elements based on feedback from stakeholders Nathan Grim psychology major had never heard of the Strategic Planning Process I have not heard about the Strategic Planning Committee or anything about the new vision and mission process said Grim The mission and vision seem to incorporate everything he said after viewing a printed copy of the drafts of the mission and vision statement The one phrase mentions MU addressing compelling global issuesbut I don't believe the university actually does that he said Halloween comes to Millersville IKaitlin Specht News Writer Halloween Comes to Millersville was the theme for the 17th Annual Millersville Community Parade Starting at 9 am on Saturday October 26 the parade made its way down George Street with over 150 participant entries from surrounding communities Music antique cars performances and handmade floats from children's groups and other organizations were featured in the parade Police officers governmental officials, emergency response workers fire fighters and current and past members of the US Armed Forces made their way through the street bringing much celebration and excitement to the crowds lining the streets This is my first time seeing the parade after six years and this is the best one ever The Star Wars guys were here and the ewoksl love it said Gary Dunn Millersville University alumni I just like how everyone comes together The coolest part is that people from years and years ago come their kids come It's just a combination of so many people and the parade's actually big—it's huge This is a small little town and when the parade's here there's twice as many people around than any other time It's an awesome experience he said It was my first time at the parade and I had a really great time because everyone watching around me were having a great time said Chelsea Dalberto a senior I also enjoyed seeing the people in the parade working the floats because they looked like they were enjoying themselves The parade showcased different Halloween themes from the various performances and floats music and costumes Millersville University president Dr John A Anderson made an appearance on his bicycle warning the crowd to watch out for the zombies behind him while students killed the zombies chasing after them It was really nice seeing the new president being involved in the parade said Dalberto I think it shows that he really wants to be involved "It's just interesting how it's an entire community where we have everybody from the surrounding communities bring their families and everyone at the university getting together with their families for an event It's really fun said Kelly Snell a senior "It's awesome I think this is the most fun I've had This is the third one that I've been to said senior Courtland Hill Every year Millersville's Community Parade receives thousands of financial contributions from Millersville area businesses, Millersville University and the MU and handmade floats IViLe Asst News Editor The theft of a set of aluminum bleachers that were located in the Pucillo playing fields is under investigation by the Millersville University Police Department (MUPD) One out of the five sets of bleachers were stolen The theft occurred over Homecoming weekend Officer Justin Foreman is asking anyone who has information on who is moving the of Millersville University on Friday October 25 2013 Dr Anderson opened his inaugural address with a clear vision that would sustain the American Dream the opportunity to access higher education is the key to securing that dream It has become more and more difficult for students to obtain their goals and access higher education due to soaring tuition debt loans and state budget cuts The future of public higher education as we know it is seriously threatened by a lack of bold visionaries with a bold commitment said Dr Anderson.
