Dr. Joseph Grunenwald, dean of businesses Clarion University of Pennsylvania's College of Business Administration has been accredited as one of the nation's elite programs by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the national accrediting body for American business education. Clarion University is now one of only four universities in western Pennsylvania with full AACSB accreditation for both its undergraduate and graduate programs. A total of 14 institutions are accredited throughout Pennsylvania. The accreditation honors the nation's best business education programs and provides the recognition necessary for improved employee recruitment of Clarion University students by major corporations and admission to advanced educational opportunities. "What all of this means," says Dr. Joseph Grunenwald, dean of the College of Business Administration, "is that students can be assured that they are receiving solid business preparation that meets and exceeds national standards. Students can have confidence that Clarion is already a very good program and is committed to continuous improvement. Graduates from business programs offered by Clarion University not only have the necessary skills for success in current business organizations but are well prepared to accept the responsibilities that the future may bring." "Students receive the finest possible educational experience because our faculty see good teaching as our primary objective. Clarion's commitment to instruction and its students were viewed as major strengths." AACSB, formed in 1916, continued on page 10 wmm July 1998 Volume 45 Number 2 Grohe National Superintendent of the Year Barbara (Artuso) Grohe '67 will use her new position as national school superintendent of the year to spread her philosophy of education. Grohe, superintendent of the Iowa City Community School District, was honored in February as Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators (AASA). Children across the nation selected their favorites in the 1998 Children's Choice Book Awards, the only national awards program that allows children to pick favorites. Children, ages five to 13, selected their favorite 100 books published during the last year. Clarion University is one of five regional sponsors in the United States of the program that provided five school districts with thousands of new books for students to read. "Big Red Fire Truck" is this year's number one book, according to this region's children voters "Big Red Fire Truck," written and illustrated by Ken Wilson-Max, is an interactive book featuring pull tabs and flaps. The book also ranks as one of the top selections for five to eight-year-olds in the national voting. Complete story on page 28. President's Medallion Dr. Dana Still (center), a retired 35-year faculty member, administrator, and trustee, received the President's Medallion during the 1998 Spring Commencement Ceremonies. President Diane L. Reinhard and Trustee Chair Michael Keefer congratulate Dr. Still.
